# Arcade archives, symbol rain and 42 SAYS

Revision: **2026.09.12-arcade-rain**.

Every player, including Watch AI, encounters seven arcade remixes during the
ordinary campaign. Each sixth property's portal detours through an archived
property before continuing to the next district. There are 49 encounters:
42 original properties and seven additional challenges.

| After property | Archive property | Challenge |
|---|---|---|
|06|01|Bug Hunt|
|12|08|Byte Dash|
|18|15|Bug Hunt|
|24|22|Byte Dash|
|30|29|Bug Hunt|
|36|34|Byte Dash|
|42|39|Bug Hunt, then final victory|

Bug Hunt provides a blaster near the entrance. F, X or FIRE launches guided
bolts at nearby enemies; unlimited ammunition and terrain penetration keep
the familiar platform route useful. Every enemy must be defeated before exit.

Byte Dash restores glowing tokens at the property's receipt positions. Collect
all of them and enter the portal before the 24-second clock expires. Patrols
remain dangerous. Death or retry resets the challenge; pause and hidden tabs
freeze the clock. Original receipts and certificates remain banked throughout.

Old saves receive eligible unplayed archives while preserving property credit
and existing records. Reloading either side of an archive portal restores the
correct encounter. Victory waits until the final archive is complete.

The wallpaper is original game drawing code based on the visual language of
[42.uk's improbability cascade](https://42.uk/assets/improbability-cascade.js?v=2026-08-09d):
six-arm asterisks, brackets, rings, geometric emblems and short symbol trails.
Three layers respond at different depths, with diagonal and reverse drift,
slow rotation and gentle shape changes. The site's code is never downloaded
by the game. Both renderers use the same field; its clock is independent of
gameplay, and reduced motion produces a stable background.

42 SAYS draws from individually verified original Yorkshire clear/death recordings, with separate
contextual pools for Bug Hunt and Byte Dash. Permanent line IDs and persistent
shuffle history avoid repeats until the matching pool has been heard. This
history covers the current game instance and subsequent reloads; simultaneous
tabs are independent players. Subtitles match the selected recording exactly.
Failed audio loads retain the subtitle, and cancellation restores music gain.
Pause cancels the current recording and caption together; resuming play never
starts an old quip unexpectedly.

The creator approved the synthetic Fast B theatrical voice profile at 1.5× tempo.
Every deliverable clip requires its own signal and word checks after tempo
conversion. Profile approval is not a claim that the user individually listened
to every line. The voice reference and rejected recordings stay private.

Latency means gameplay health points, not network delay. Checkpoint resumption
restores the same minimum 42 health points used after death for playable rooms;
finished results retain their actual score and health.

Verification includes an uninterrupted 49-encounter real-driver AI run with no
deaths, every Byte Dash finishing below 70% of its time budget, save migration,
portal reloads, final-score preservation, paused clocks, bounded background
drawing, shuffle history, cancellation and stale audio-promise handling.
